Who are the leading annexe suppliers in the UK?

Buying a garden annexe is a significant investment, so we think it's important to look at several suppliers before deciding which company is right for you.

Naturally, we'd like you to choose Garden Annexes, but different manufacturers have different approaches and strengths. We therefore encourage prospective customers to do their research and compare us with some of the other established names in the UK garden annexe market.

Here are four suppliers we think are worth considering.

Garden Annexes by GX Modular

We design, manufacture and install our own garden annexes using our modular building system.

The trade-off is that we're deliberately a little more prescriptive than some genuinely bespoke annexe manufacturers. If you want something completely individual, another supplier may therefore be worth considering alongside us.

iHus

Based in Doncaster, iHus is another established specialist in the garden annexe market.

Their approach tends to offer greater scope for bespoke design than our modular system. For customers whose priority is creating something particularly individual, they're certainly a company worth including in your research.

Homelodge

Homelodge, based near the south coast, has been building annexes for many years and is another established specialist supplier.

They're a medium-sized family business and another company we suggest looking at when comparing the different approaches available in the annexe market.

Green Retreats

Green Retreats is well known for its garden buildings and now also offers garden annexes.

It's a different proposition again and may be worth including in your research when comparing suppliers, specifications and construction methods.

What about oak-framed annexes?

There's also a more specialist part of the market for customers looking for a traditional oak-framed building.

Companies such as Prime Oak and Julius Bahn operate within this area. These can represent a considerably higher level of investment and are perhaps better considered as a specialist alternative to the mainstream modular annexe market.

Is a garden room company a good alternative?

This is where we'd recommend exercising a little more caution.

A garden annexe and a garden room aren't the same thing. A garden room might only be occupied for a few hours at a time, whereas an annexe is intended to provide proper residential accommodation.

That creates a different set of requirements for the building, its specification and its construction. If you're considering a company whose principal business is garden rooms rather than residential annexes, make sure you understand exactly what they're providing and whether they have appropriate experience of building accommodation intended for residential use.
